CHILDREN'S MINISTRY PASTOR

POSITION SUMMARY

The mission of Mountain Park Church is to invite the distracted and the disinterested to realize their role in God’s story. The Children’s Ministries Pastor bears primary responsibility for fulfilling this mission with children (birth through 5th grade) and their families in our community. In summary, the Children’s Ministries Pastor will 1) provide spiritual and organizational leadership for children’s ministries, 2) create opportunities for children to know, love and follow Jesus, 3) encourage and equip their parents to be spiritual leaders, and 4) raise up volunteers to do the work of the children’s ministry.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide Spiritual Leadership to children, volunteers, and staff

  • Ensure that Children’s Ministries reflects Jesus’ call to make disciples
  • Consistently cast a clear and compelling vision for Children’s Ministries that aligns all activities with Mountain Park’s vision and strategy
  • Maintain an environment where children are welcomed without condemnation yet lovingly called to follow Christ in every area of their life
  • Maintain a strong, authentic pastoral presence among children and parents in the church and community for care, discipleship, crisis response, and outreach
  • Complete additional pastoral duties as appropriate and assigned
  • Work closely with the Student Ministries Pastor to align vision and ensure a clear and unified discipleship pathway for Birth through High School
  • Manage and lead Children’s Ministry staff, including, but not limited to, hiring, scheduling, distribution of duties, coaching, training, performance reviews, discipline and termination when necessary
  • Define, document, and track annual, quarterly, and weekly evaluations and goals for programs and events to ensure the fulfillment of Mountain Park’s mission and values
  • Manage systems for assimilation, safety protocols, supply distribution, ministry promotions, budget expenses, and children’s offerings


Create opportunities for children to know love and follow Jesus

1. Lead, plan, and ensure high quality ministry programs and events that provide pathways for relational discipleship and result in a children’s attendance of no less than 15% of overall weekend attendance (with a goal of 20%) that includes:

  • Weekly large group worship where children participate with their voices and hearts and engage with effective teaching through storytelling, acting, and activities
  • Weekly small groups where children are making friends while being discipled and loved by caring leaders
  • A safe and loving environment for babies and toddlers where their church experience models Jesus’s love for each of us
  • Oversight of midweek ministries that engage children in in-depth discipleship
  • Environments that are creative, visually appealing, clean, organized, and secure
  • An on-sight summer VBS type experience where community kids are invited to come meet and experience Jesus in a fun, active and safe environment
  • Strategic connections between children’s ministry and the larger church experience
  • High quality transitions between age-based ministries that introduce and integrate children and their parents into their new programs
  • Special Friends (Kindergarten through high school special needs ministry), including volunteers, lesson plans, promotion or program, and other logistics.

2. Develop and communicate biblical teachings with excellence, relevance, creativity, humor, and helpfulness that align with the beliefs and teachings of Mountain Park Church by:

  • Working with and editing curriculum (currently Orange Kids) to ensure its effectiveness for our context, and alignment with our beliefs and values
  • Ensuring large group and small group teachings that captivate children and inspire them to follow Jesus in every area of life with repeatable values and truths
  • Motivating children to take the next step in realizing their role in God’s story by putting their faith in Jesus, making wise choices, building healthy relationships, practicing spiritual habits, and serving others


Encourage and equip parents to be spiritual leaders

1. Collaborate with Student and Children’s Ministries staff to encourage parents to be spiritual leaders by

  • Establishing strong relationships with parents and serving as their go-to person for child related issues
  • Communicating regularly with parents to celebrate wins, promote events, share parenting tips and lesson content through email, social media, texting, and meetings

2. Equip parents to be spiritual leaders by

  • Providing resources that equip parents to be the primary spiritual leaders in their homes including but not limited to weekly devotionals that tie to what kids learn on Sundays
  • Visioning, championing, and leading fun yet intentional shared spiritual experiences where parents can practice spiritual leadership while making memories with their kids.


Raise up teams and leaders who move kids toward Christ

1. Collaborate with Children’s Ministry staff to develop volunteer teams and processes that are effective and sustainable including:

  • Volunteer coaches that train and care for a team of 10-12 volunteers
  • Regular gatherings for training, inspiration, and community building no less than quarterly
  • Thorough communications regarding lesson plans, events, schedules, responsibilities, and needs
  • Equip youth to serve in the church as Children’s Ministry volunteers


2. Recruit, develop, and care for volunteers (including parents) who

  • Embrace and implement Children’s Ministries strategies
  • Take ownership of the ministry as small group leaders, production volunteers, event planners, coaches, high level team leaders, etc.
  • Commit to serving on a regular basis, with a goal of weekly
  • Embrace the truth that every child is made in the image of God and commit to reaching kids who are distracted and disinterested


QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

1. Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum of three years in children’s ministry.
  • Previous management experience
  • Proven experience recruiting, leading, growing volunteer teams
  • Track record of growing a children’s ministry in attendance and spiritual maturity
  • Willingness to be ordained credentialed with The Church of God (Anderson, Indiana)


2. Preferred Experience

  • Three years leading of a children’s ministry with at least 200 children
  • Producing and directing a monthly (or weekly) Family Experience (from Orange),or something similar
  • Oversight of production technology (sound, lighting, projection, video, etc.)
  • Creation of original small and large group curriculums
